The Top 4 Signs That It May Be Time To Repair Your Roof

Homeowners often neglect caring for certain aspects of their home, and the roof is no exception. Maybe the roof’s position above our heads and out of sight is the reason it often goes uncared for and becomes an afterthought when it comes time to improve our homes. Whether you think it’s time to sell your home, you’ve just moved into an older property, or you’re just renovating your home, always consider the roof of the property. Unaddressed problems with the roof can easily turn into much more serious issues that can damage the security of your home and destroy its structural integrity entirely.

First time home owners and veteran property renovators alike should know the signs of roof decay and depreciation to repair damages before they become serious. To help homeowners understand the telltale indicators of roof damage, S&S Remodeling Contractors has compiled a list of the top 4 indicators that it may be time to replace the roof:

  1. Light Seeping Through In The Attic

When light shines through small holes in the attic, it means that other things like water and debris can make their way inside your home as well. This is a bad sign for homeowners and can lead to serious damage for the roof.

  1. Shingle Decay

Shingles decay, transform and morph over time as a result of weathering and other forms of wear-and tear. To discover if the roof is damaged by inspecting the shingles, keep an eye out for shingles that seem curled in appearance. These curled shingles are shortly followed by leaks and should be attended to as soon as they’re spotted.

  1. Moisture Finding Its Way Into The Insulation Of The Roof

Homeowners that live in places that are often humid or experience a lot of rain and other precipitation should get the roof checked routinely for excess retained moisture. Roof inspectors will check this by testing how much “give” your roof has while walking on it. The surface of the roof feeling soft or squishy is a good indicator of excessive moisture in the roof’s insulation.

  1. The Roof Is Aged

How long the roof will last depends on a number of factors including the construction material used when building the roof and the climate that the roof is located in. Professional roofing experts estimate that a typical roof made of asphalt shingle or wood shake will last 20-50 years. There are other roofing materials like slate tile or metal that can last as long as 50 to 70 years. These other roofing materials also provide additional benefits like a resistance to fire and rotting, but are often considerably more expensive and require a professional team to install them.

Professional service from respectful contractors. They left the job site clean and met the project deadlines as promised. They also responded to questions in a reasonable time frame. I would recommend them to anyone looking for quality work from a reputable company.

Great company. I called S & S after the recent storms in the area caused some damage to my siding. I was a little nervous due to a piece of siding hanging from my cable lines. Gavin Subers was excellent at reviewing our needs and recommended a Craftbuilt-Aristocrat retractable awning for our residence. We had the work completed in April and couldn't be happier. Joe Paris and his assistant (also named Joe) did a great job on the installation. I highly recommend S & S Remodeling!

Would recommend S & S highly. Being a senior citizen and not knowing what is what. I needed a new roof and Zach worked with me and his crew did a phenomenal job. Thank you so much again Zach. Will be calling in the future to get more work done. God Bless, Frank and Ann Marie Dunlap Siermine.
